Colorado

Airy Zona

We are in Phoenix!

Wow, my body is really confused about the season. I keep hopping time zones and hemispheres and I'm not keeping my suitcase full of appropriate clothes!

As we drove from Las Vegas to Phoenix today, I had North the dog up with me in the front seat. That's always fun to do for a variety of reasons. One being that when people pass me or I pass them, they do a triple take at the GIANT FLUFFY WHITE DOG passenging in the front. Makes me laugh every time.

We stopped at the Hoover Dam for a look of course. Pretty impressive! The kids were VERY excited about the dam. I guess it plays a part in the Percy Jackson novels that I haven't read yet but they have. (I get lectures every day on how I should be reading it so I can pretend play with them. "Dad has read them, mom, why not you?")  Anyway there was a frenzy of excitement and plenty of "Damn" jokes. Yes. From our 7 and 9 year olds.

Good times in the Whitacre car!

This session below was one of our Best Idea Session winners, we had a great time in Colorado with their wagon horses! Izzy and Isaac are still talking about it- this nice family let the kids drive the horses and OMGoodness was that a thrill.

Genes

I think we've had the discussion on genes with our kids a few times. We discuss how genes are passed down from generation to generation and the complicated science behind it all.

But as kids usually do, this science is often forgotten as days go by and the lesson needs a refresher. Once in the car, Belle wanted to know about how babies sometimes look like their parents and sometimes not, and with an adorable confused expression she said, "I mean, I know you are going to tell me about Levi's and all that complicated stuff, but I still don't get it!"

Myth, busted

Can we agree that chips and dip are one of the most satisfying snacks ever? Or veggies and dip? Or, for the under three crowd, dipping your finger directly into the dip?

Over here in the Whitacre household we are big on the no double dipping rule. The kids will BUST anyone who attempts it. But guess what? Recently in talking to my friend Summer at the goPro reunion, she told me about the Myth Busters episode where, *spoiler alert* they busted this belief that double dipping spreads germs!

BEST NEWS EVER, LET THE QUADRUPLE DIPPING COMMENCE!

Oh! The cougar!

I think I mentioned before that our Party House at the goPro reunion was full of really crazy taxidermy. For example, perhaps it's normal for a cabin in the woods (ps, have you seen that movie? INSANE) to have a moose head mounted on the wall, but this cabin had a GIGANTAHUGE moose head looming over us all weekend.

And, maybe you might see a ram's head or a statue of a ram in some other cabin. But here, there was a giant ram on it's own little platform on the vaulted wall- and I must say, a very well endowed ram, too. It was... unsightly.

Plus, if you headed down to the first floor, you'd find on the bookshelf A COUGAR. A real, but dead, cougar. Very alive looking.

But dead.

And so, when it was time to do our group photo, I thought I'd better bring something into the photo that would jog everyone's memories later when thinking of our fab weekend. So, I totally brought out the Cougar.

And the cougar liked it.

PS. Taxidermied cougars are heavy!

PSS. don't the little lillies look too adorable?

(I love how Isaac is randomly grabbing onto the coug's tail like it's a handle. Awesome.)
