Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 1:48AM “Which is better, petting a tiger or poking an alligator?” I ask.
Isabelle chooses petting the tiger and Isaac chooses poking the gator.
“Which is badder?” it sounds like Isabelle asks “Playing in a tree by yourself, or with Isabelle.” (In the grand tradition of Kanye West, Isabelle often refers to herself in the third person.)
Isabelle always chooses one activity in this game. One variety of the activity is without her and the other with. Isaac always chooses the version without. I guess, to keep her third-person-referring ego in check. Wendy and I choose the Isabelle version, as we always do.
This is the only game we play while driving around. We tried I spy, but Isabelle is not much of a rule follower in this game.
“I spy something pink.” she begins.
“Is it your shirt? your shoes? your socks? the faded red wall?” We exhaust all pink possibilities.
“No, it is the car!” She triumphantly exclaims (is it redundant to say exclaim following an exclamation point? (Which, by the way, is definitely the coolest sounding of the punctuations. (Don’t even get me started on colon.)))
“Oh, the black car?” Wendy asks.
“Yes!” Isabelle exclaims.
So, now we stick to which is better.
“Which is better?” I begin.
“No dad, not which is better, which is r a d d e r” Isabelle draws out the word so that I understand that I am not saying it right. She is, totally, from Southern California.
