Viva las Vegas
Monday, April 13, 2009 at 01:18AM We're back from Vegas and had a really successful trip.
The only real bummer of the trip was that our fairly new Prius developed a whistle in the window (?!), and so, driving up the highway for 4 hours to Las Vegas, we were "serenaded" by a high pitched, screaming whistle. Almost enough to make me drive the car off a cliff after plunging toothpicks into my eyes.
But I prevailed in not doing so.
Which allowed us to have some great sessions on Friday in the Neon Boneyard. Don't know what that is? It's where they stash all the old, ginormous, colorful and glitzy signs from the ghosts of Vegas's past.
Basically a photographer's dream.
After our shoots we (Tyler and I) went exploring the strip. Yes, that's right, we stayed on the strip. Don't blame me, blame Priceline. OK it's my fault, since I didn't explicitly say, "Hey priceline, don't get us a room in the trashiest section of town, k?"
My bad.
In my very humble opinion, the whole Las Vegas Strip is just YUCK. I despise it so much but I always forget I do until I trick myself into going there again. Other parts of Las Vegas are just lovely. In fact during this wedding I came to really love the mountains and scenery of the area. But the strip?
Again, makes me want to poke toothpicks into my eyes, drive off cliffs, etc.
Anyway.
Meet Kim+Lee. These two glorious people were married on Saturday, and I'm anxious to show you my favorites from their day. But first, the pre-wedding shoot we did in the boneyard.

These are incredible! (I am a sucker for lovely decrepitude.) I never realized how truly ginormous those signs are. As always, amazing work, Wendy!
So I ordered something from an etsy seller last week in Oregon. She mentioned she had her pictures done by you because paypal is a feminist and won't let me change my last name. You are everywhere, woman.
Your pictures always make me want to say swear words- in a good way. How can one woman be to saturated with talent?!!!!
So fun! Can't wait to see the wedding pics!!

Christy, the caterer ;)
I LOVE your use of the color in this shoot! Wonderful pictures Wendy!
these colors are OFF. THE. HOOK. lady.
I adore your work!! Would you ever be willing to share which actions you use?? I have been stuck on ittybittyactions for a while now and am trying to decide which new set to pick -- but it's hard to decide. I'm leaning toward Kubota 1 and 3.
i hate vegas, too. but you make that neon graveyard look like such an amazing place to take pictures, i kind of want to go now!
How do you think of these things?! How did you know a boneyard existed? How did you get access? How do you take such amazing pictures time and time again. No repeats. Love it.
What a totally fun place for a photoshoot!
I wanted to shoot my girls at the boneyard when we were in LV too. But no kids allowed. They have a "sassy" sign and I wanted to put my girls in front of it and blow a canvas size print of it, but no kids allowed! Plus I didn't want to pay the fee! ha...
I love the boneyard! Awesome!
